The event opened up with local teams from around the pacific northwest. The teams varied from older teams (40+ and 60+ crew teams) to high school crew teams.
Tons of spectators watched from the Montlake Bridge, but there were designated viewing areas along the cut that people could sit and enjoy the sunny afternoon and races.
Leading up to the event, crew teams and artists came to paint words of encouragement on the walls of the cut.
It was a beautiful day for racing! The event finished off with a series of heats, which UW had at least one boat in for each heat.
It was amazing being down on the cut and seeing all of the spectators gathered on the bridge from afar. Throughout the day, it got more and more crowded.
I positioned myself at the finishing line, so that I could see the celebration. I knew that the winning teams would often splash in celebration and I really wanted to capture this!
The event concluded with all of the boats gathered in Lake Union. It was pretty remarkable to see all of the teams and the level of competition at this event. Sadly, UW lost the Men's Windermere Cup, but came away with a win in the Women's Windermere Cup!
