This past weekend I headed to photograph the Polynesian Day at the University of Washington, one of the biggest cultural events that takes place on campus each year. Thousands of students pass through this event throughout the day to watch cultural performances based around Polynesian tradition.
PolyDay, as it is more commonly called, consists of dances and singing throughout the day. The event lasts for several hours and takes place on Red Square, so people can gather at the event in between classes.
UW head football coach Chris Peterson takes a photo with several players who attended the event to support fellow players involved with the event. |
There were so many cool different kinds of traditional costumes for the performances!
Danny Shelton, former UW football standout, was a huge supporter of the event. |
The event concluded with a traditional Polynesian chant and all of the performers gathering on-stage to dance and celebrate together.
They put this event on every year and it was great to be able to take part in it through photography.
